DRUGS - Responding to Harvi's weblog

I totally agree with Harvi's views on drugs as i think it is a very bad habit that people get in to and once they take it they continuously need it in the future which costs a lot of money. This leads people on the wrong tracks as they drop out of school and this affects a persons health which leads to further serious problems. People take drugs so that they can look 'Bad' and it gives them that reputation which gives them pleasure but they need to seriously think about the negatives sides of drugs as people are better of without them and should stay away from it as much as they can.

GAMBLING - Responding to Cam's weblog

I agree with Cam's views on gambling as everyone has gambled in their life and continue to gamble even after losing so many money the one time. It gets people in to a lot of debt as they have trouble paying back their debt which gets people in to more trouble. I know a couple who were married for 13 years broke up as the husband was gambling so this broke a family up which affected both sides of the family and their children.

ABORTION

In my opinion abortion is something really bad that people go ahead with because to me it's killing a baby even though some people say that it is not a baby when women have an abortion but i believe that it is a baby as soon as it is conceived so therefore it is killing a baby. If a woman doesn't want a baby and goes ahead with an abortion then she should have been more careful in the first place rather than killing a baby and damaging her womb because with an abortion it damages a wmans inside so why go through all this when there are so many ways that prevents a woman from becoming pregnant and in todays time there is contraception available whereas back in time it wasn't available or was limited. I understand if a woman is in a situation where she has no choice but to go through an abortion then that should be only due the really bad and helpless circumstances that one has to face such decision but otherwise people who have no difficult circumstances to face shouldn't be allowed to go through an abortion. The two links explain more about abortion, the disadvantages and the advantages.

TELLING LIES WITH INTEGRITY

Lying is something that everyone has done in their life be it someone young or old. If someone came up to me and told me that they have never lied then i could never believe that because it is something that everyone has done willingly or unwillingly. I don't lie and like to be honest but sometimes you find yourself in situations where you have to lie to get out of it and it may be the best option available. Sometimes one lies in order to benefit the other person or it could be to protect them but some people just make it a habit of lying and lie about everything which then makes it hard for people to believe in that person even if they might be telling the truth. You can get more information on what is a lie and how to lie with the following link which is quite interesting.

BAD CINEMA

I was absolutely shocked when i saw the film 'Kids' it was so shocking to see what teenagers these days get up to. I never thought that this film would be so bad considering it revolved around teenagers whose lives revolve around sex and drugs. These children need to think before they take any actions involved with drugs and sex and need to think about the consequences and how they affect others by spreading HIV. To be honest i don't know what i was epecting from this lecture but the only thing i knew was that it was at the lighthouse cinema. You tend to hear about children getting up to mischief and how they come of the right tracks but this was extreme a step to far and causing others problem such as HIV that others find it hard to deal with especially when you are only 12 years old like the boy Telly in the film. The link gives you some advice and support on how to cope with HIV.

PIERCING

Piercing is something that everyone has got whether it is their ears or nose as it is acceptable but when people begin to get their different parts of the body pierced then i think they go over the top as there are so many parts of the body that can be pierced that i never thought about before until this lecture. I have nothing against it but i just don't like to think about the pain they must have gone through as i just about got through the pain with getting my ears pierced and couldn't think of getting anything else pierced. I don't like to look at pictures either which show the different parts of the body that are pierced as they were shown during lecture which were disturbing and shocking. The link gives you details of all the different parts of the body that can be pierced and a bit more information on piercing.

TATTOOS

I don't view tattoos as being bad as it just modifies your body as people like to look and feel good and attractive. I would like to get a tattoo done myself but i just couldn't go through all the pain and thinking that it would look wrinkly and unattractive when i am older. This lecture was interesting as we were shown pictures and designs of the different types of tattoos that one can have done and it is up to a person and their personal choice whether they would want a tattoo or not and i don't see that anyone has the right to stop you from getting a tattoo done as each individual is responsible for their own body and what they do with it is up to them.

BEING TOO RELIGIOUS

I have nothing against people who are too religious as it is their choice what they believe in. I am not too religious myself but i do go to the gurdwara on special occasions and weddings. Some people be more religious than others and some be less religious and that doesn't make a person not religious if they are not too religious as everyone has their own beliefs about what they believe in and what they follow. It is up to a person what religion they follow as they know what is best for them however i don't like when people preach about their own religion and try to tell people what religion they should follow because a person has the choice of whether they want to be religious or not as there are people out there who don't follow ant religion. No one should be forced to follow a particular religion. The link explains more about being too religious related to Christians.

INFIDELITY

This can be viewed in two ways as some people may think that it is completely wrong and some may think that there is nothing wrong with it. From one perspective infidelity can be seen as filling up the gap that you may be experencing in your marriage and with adultery you wouldn’t need to compromise or give commitment whereas in a marriage you would need to give your full commitment. Sometimes one partner may not be happy in a marriage and may lead they them to commit adultery. From another perspective it can be seen as deceiving, betrayal and selfishness and this is what causes families to break. Families who have children and commit adultery they don’t realise that it is their children who will be affected and will have to suffer. I do respect all those people who have stuck with their vows and hope they continue to do so. Many reasons and stories about infidelity can be read on the related link.

MASTURBATION

This was the first lecture i went to. Masturbation is a topic that not many people would feel comfortable talking about or would admit to it because of the fact that some people don’t like to discuss personal issues and have the right to do so. Masturbation has been there from the past and was seen a bad thing to do but as times have moved on it has become more acceptable. People who are single and in relationships tend to masturbate as it gives one pleasure and satisfaction and you don’t need to broad cast whether you do it or not. . Some people may be against the idea of masturbation and some may be more open on the topic as every individual is different so therefore their views and opinions will vary. It is done for personal reasons which benefit the individual. Masturbation is encouraged as it cuts down the risk of cancer according to researchers and more information is available from the link at the bottom.

PROSTITUTION

I wasn't there at the time this lecture took place as i started the module late but was told about this lecture by my friends and thought this topic was worth giving my views and comments on.
Prostitution exists in every country and is seen as an easy way to make money. It is upto people what they want to do with their body and if they want to make money by using their body then it is up to them as it is their choice. I personally don’t like or agree with the service of paying someone just to have keep them company physically or socially. People need to think carefully before they do provide such service as they need to know what they are letting themselves in for and what the outcomes of it could be and are. Channel 4 gives a analysis of the prostitution world.

SMOKING

I wasn't actually there during this lecture as i started the module late but was told that there had been a lecture on smoking so i thought i would put my views across. I view smoking as a bad habit and waste of money because think about all the money you spend on cigarettes you could spend it on something else that will not harm your lungs and will reduce the risk of lung cancer. We can’t judge people who smoke but I personally wouldn’t smoke even though I have tried to but didn’t quite manage so I think that was a sign to tell me that smoking is not meant for me. I am really glad that smoking is banned from pubs, clubs and public places because I don’t see why other people should inhale other people’s smoke you might as well be smoking yourself. It is not very nice when you are trying to eat at a pub and there is smoke all around you. There are also a lot of agencies and organisations that are trying to help people quit and guide them in the right direction.

FIRST LECTURE

I started quite late in this module as i didn't choose this in the first place but due to unforseen circumstances i had to do this module. On my first day in the lecture i found it to be really interesting and was shocked to see how popular this module was. The issues that are discussed in the lectures;some of them i wouldn't have thought were considered to be this bad that they would be discussed like this. Every week through the different issues that are going to be discussed it will give me a very detailed insight to the background of the subject.
